Job Description

The role:

Due to continued growth and investment, Highways England are currenly seeking a new Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support Maintenance & Response in our Commercial Delivery team based in Penrith.

Day to day:

Your responsibilities will include;

  • Assisting with  the administration of the Maintenance & Response (M&R) contract
  • Review and prepare orders for reactive and improvement work to the supply chain, where required
  • Review and prepare payments to the M&R supply chain, as required.
  • Contribute pro-actively in achieving the Highways England efficiency target.
  • Assist with supply chain payment assessment including all relevant documentation on a monthly basis.
  • Ensure cost and value reconciliation is performed to ensure the correct costs are captured.
  • Assist with the monitoring of actual cost against forecast, ensuring costs are only paid in accordance with the contract.
  • Undertake audits of costs incurred under the Maintenance & Response and Design Services Contracts, as instructed.
  • Assist with the review of ad-hoc contractual issues, as and when they arise.
  • Manage own portfolio of works under the Maintenance and Response contract
  • Assist with the management of M&R Early Warnings and Compensation Events.
  • Review and respond to ad-hoc contractual issues, as and when they arise.
  • Accept personal responsibility for safety of self and others, reporting unsafe conditions and near miss incidents.

About you:

To be successful in the role you have / be;

  • Working  towards a degree or HND  in Civil Engineering , Commercial Management or Quantity Surveying
  • Working towards membership of a relevant professional body
  • Literacy in office software products to enable production / maintenance of a range of complex documents and spreadsheets
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good commercial awareness
  • Trustworthy and open
