Job Description

The role

Due to continued growth and investment, Highways England is looking to recruit new 2 new Category Product Delivery Manager’s to join our expanding team in Birmingham. The successful candidates will be offered permanent contracts and will play a key part in our Supply Chain Development Division within the Commercial & Procurement Directorate.

The role of the Category Product Delivery Manager is vital to shape and deliver product category strategies by working with a variety of stakeholders to achieve improved performance and outcomes against Highways England’s imperatives.  

Day to day

  • Apply and implement commercial strategies and solutions to meet business requirements for assigned product areas by collaborating with the Commercial and Delivery teams within Highways England
  • Work with the Commercial,  Procurement and Supply Chain teams to develop appropriate procurement approach for assigned product category area
  • Actively identify and drive opportunities for innovation with category stakeholders within assigned category / product area that helps meet strategic objectives (e.g. improved safety, customer experience etc.) in line with Highways England’s innovation strategy
  • Actively participate, contribute and promote sharing of best practice and exchange of new ideas to improve category performance and delivery.
  • Collaborate with category stakeholders and wider work streams within Supply Chain division to develop and deliver new initiatives.
  • Actively build a network of stakeholder relationships with current and potential key suppliers and industry bodies in collaboration with the other work streams to engage on value improving opportunities  of assigned category / product area
  • Work with Commercial and Procurement teams to identify and develop effective solutions to support category strategy and delivery. 
  • Support the Product Development and Delivery team in effectively communicating and championing the assigned product area with the business and other stakeholder groups. This could include supplier communities and internal and external forums as applicable. 
  • Build team capabilities (Pay bands5,4 etc. as applicable) and ensure talent development is achieved by coaching, guiding and providing timely feedback to the team members to drive performance improvement

About you

  • If you’re excited by this opportunity, please demonstrate within your CV (by way of evidenced examples) how you meet the following criteria:
  • The candidate requires 2-3 years’ experience from working within a procurement or supply chain development background, delivering and implementing supply chain improvement projects.
  • A strong proven track record in major procurement exercises (inviting/selecting tenders, managing contracts) and contract development work (knowledge of a wide range of contract types and forms and their application to business need).
  • An ability to operate strategically and at times tactically where appropriate
  • A proven track record of working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to improve supply chain performance
  • Existing knowledge of any of the product categories of the roles is highly desirable but not essential to being successful in the role.
