Job Description

The role

Due to continued growth and investment, Highways England are looking to recruit a new Commercial Manager to join our expanding team in Manchester. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing expert advice and support to the business on contractual matters ensuring that the needs of Highways England are protected and compliance is adhered to.

Day to day

  • Responsible for identifying trends and variances from data sets in order to undertake analysis to advise stakeholders on action to take to support efficient and compliant delivery
  • Responsible for working on specific projects in order to provide commercial support to internal clients across a range of activities, aiding decision making on commercial efficiencies, acting as a source of authoritative advice on contract administration, cost capture, analysis, performance, related intelligence and opportunities for performance improvement
  • Support the development of a thorough and ongoing knowledge resource of cost trends by sharing best practice and working closely with colleagues to share learnings in order to achieve a consistent approach for the organisation
  • Ensure the collection of robust, consistent and objective data, developing robust data capture processes in order to ensure that the correct information is stored, analysed and shared to support decision making
  • Take responsibility for querying any anomalies, ensuring that the best possible information is provided to stakeholders in order to provide accurate data
  • Provide specialist advice across the organisation on cost intelligence and the benefits in order to act as a centre of excellence for unit costs and the benefits that the organisation can glean from this Directorate and Dept.
  • Coach and support client project managers / sponsors and their teams on the application and interpretation of commercial issues in order to ensure that this is embedded across the organisation to ensure cost efficiencies and contractual compliance for Highways England

About you

  • Experienced construction professional; a member of, or actively pursuing / willing to pursue membership of RICS, ICE or equivalent
  • Knowledge and experience of performance monitoring and reporting
  • Experience of estimating and associated software
  • Knowledge and experience of interpreting contracts, including NEC forms of contract
  • Awareness of the commercial strategy for a large organisation
  • Understanding of governance and legislation surrounding contacts for a large organisation.
