Job Description

The Role

Highways England are currently recruiting an Evaluation Officer on a permanent basis to be based at either our Birmingham or Guildford offices to be part of a new in-house evaluation team. The successful Evaluation Officer will be responsible for undertaking evaluations; data gathering and analysis; and writing analytical reports.  The post will be suited to someone who is highly motivated and competent in quantitative analysis.

Please Note: there will be a requirement to travel with this role between offices and to different sites across the Country.

Day to day

  • Undertake impact and process evaluations of road investments including; retrieving records, undertaking site surveys, analysing, reporting and presenting data to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Data analysis of large-scale monitoring data and support the team in identifying new data sources (e.g. through surveys)
  • Work with a wide variety of data inputs to assess the quality and understand appropriate applications.
  • Liaise with data owners (internal and external) to improve the quality and suitability of the data for evaluation processes.
  • Responsible for recording and archiving data inputs as appropriate.
  • Undertaking Meta (overview) studies periodically, to draw wider conclusions from across the evaluation evidence base. 

About you

  • Qualification and / or experience to demonstrate good data analysis skills
  • Knowledge of evaluation and appraisal methods
  • Demonstrable experience of previous analytical work
  • Ability to plan and prioritise workload working to tight timescales
  • Experience with analytical report writing, demonstrating excellent communication skills
  • Ability to undertake analytical work accurately
