Job Description

Main Purpose

To complete inspections of designated Route(s) and highways assets, in line with agreed inspections schedules, procedures and standards; the role will have on duty responsibilities.

The Role

  • To complete Safety Inspections, in line with agreed timescales, procedures and standards.
  • To document asset condition and inspection findings in relevant systems, in line with agreed data capture and management standards.
  • To raise work requests for Cat 1 defects on the network.
  • To monitor supplier work completion and escalate issues or concerns to Route Delivery Lead(s) for resolution.
  • To monitor event signage and illegal signage, escalating issues as per agreed procedures.
  • To be available for on duty responsibilities, attending incident sites and providing advice.
  • To provide initial information to specialist asset teams for issues requiring further inspection
  • To input into the development of inspection plans.
  • To input into joint Route performance reviews with providers, Route Delivery Lead(s), Service Delivery-On Road colleagues, Scheme Delivery and Quality & Performance Assurance colleagues to understand performance trends, identify risks, analyse root causes for performance issues and develop remedial action plans.
  • To provide, as required, information to support customer and stakeholder queries, claims and correspondence.
  • To manage and monitor the performance of staff and the supply chain in respect of health and safety ensuring they fulfil their personal and organisational obligations with regard to the health, safety and wellbeing of both themselves and customers at all times.

Business Knowledge

  • Awareness of the responsibilities of Highways England under the 1980 Highways Act

Desirable Functional / Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of Highways Inspection
  • Good understanding of H&S
  • Knowledge of highway assets
